Celebrating Netaji Jayanti: Remembering the Contribution of a National Hero

 


 

Subhash Chandra Bose, fondly known as Netaji, was one of India’s most respected and revered freedom fighters. He was born on 23rd January 1897, in Cuttack district of Orissa. He was a leader who followed a unique approach of nationalism and patriotism.

Netaji was a brilliant student who passed his B.A. in philosophy from the University of Calcutta with first-class honors at the young age of 18. He was selected to the Indian Civil Service but resigned two years later to join the Indian National Congress. He was inspired by Mahatma Gandhi and worked with him during the Non-Cooperation Movement.

Netaji’s contribution to the Indian freedom struggle was immense. He was the founder of the Indian National Army (INA), which was formed to fight against the British. He was also the first to raise the slogan of ‘Jai Hind’, which soon became the rallying cry for the Indian freedom struggle.

Netaji’s courage and determination were unparalleled and his valor is remembered even today. He is considered a national hero and his birthday, 23rd January is celebrated as ‘Netaji Jayanti’ all over India with much enthusiasm. The day is celebrated with parades, felicitations, and other events.

Various exhibitions, debates and seminars are held to commemorate the contribution of the great leader. People from all walks of life come together to celebrate Netaji and many rallies are taken out in his remembrance. His statue is garlanded and candles are lit in his memory.

The day is also marked by the release of commemorative stamps and coins in his honor. Schools and colleges also organize debates, symposiums, and seminars to create awareness about the heroic deeds of Netaji.

Netaji’s struggle for independence and his dedication towards the cause of freedom will always be remembered and celebrated. His spirit of patriotism and selfless service can never be forgotten. Netaji Jayanti is an occasion to honor the brave man and pay tribute to his immense contribution to the freedom struggle.
