However, Lord Vishnu came to rescue by using his Sudarshan Chakra to cut the demons into pieces. The pieces of the demons fell on the ground and formed a mountain. This mountain is known as the Makar Mountain and it is believed that when the sun enters this mountain, the Makar Sankranti festival is celebrated.
